- Four nights in Haarlem. Good access to the tulips fields and small towns and villages of North Holland. There is a direct bus from Schiphol Airport to our hotel in Haarlem.
- Three nights in lovely Delft which makes a good base for exploring the windmills at Kinderdijk and the city of Rotterdam.
April 17, 2024
Our Netherlands Photo Tour begins at 2 pm at our hotel in Haarlem. We chose this location for easy access to the tulip fields, windmills, and small towns and villages in North Holland. Haarlem is also very close to Schiphol Airport. There is a direct bus from Schipol airport to Haarlem.
After an introductory meeting and our first dinner together, we will experience our first blue-hour photo session in Haarlem.
April 18, 19 & 20
We will have these three days to explore the countryside and villages to the north as well as Haarlem itself. This region is great for photographing charming towns, tulip fields, and windmills. We will also visit and photograph Keukenhof Garden in full bloom, arriving when the doors open at 8 am. We will leave mid-morning and then return in the late afternoon to take advantage of the better light and fewer crowds.
April 21, 22 & 23
We move on to the south to the over-the-top charming town of Delft. In addition to being a wonderful photo location in its own right, Delft allows for easy access to the windmills of Kinderdijk, modern Rotterdam, and a couple of medieval villages on the outskirts of Rotterdam.
April 24
Our tour ends after breakfast. Easy access from our hotel to Amsterdam is available or we can drop you at the airport when we return the vehicles.

Level of physical difficulty: 2 out of 5
The Netherlands Photo Tour features the fifth flattest country in the world. We will be walking to some of our photo locations. For example at the windmills at Kinderdijk, expect roughly a 2-mile round trip walk and when visiting the Keukenhof Gardens, you may be walking more than 2 miles, depending on your energy level. For most other parts of the Netherlands Photo Tour, we will be traveling in a 9-passenger van. You must be physically able to step in and out of the van under your own efforts (the step up into the van is higher than a typical stair step).

Personal Items, Camera Equipment, & Weather Conditions.
Temperature range for this time of year: 38º to 60º F. It can be cold and wet, so come prepared. This includes rain gear, warm layers, a warm hat, gloves, an umbrella, and rain protection for your camera.
Average monthly rainfall for this time of year: 1.5″
Please pack light, as we will not have room in the van for more than one piece of luggage plus a camera bag for each of us. Please restrict your main piece of luggage to no more than 26 inches. Magrit & I both travel for 4-5 months with 25-26 inch Travel Pro Max Lite luggage. Most airlines are now charging for more than one piece of checked baggage. Keep in mind that laundry service is available in most locations.
Waterproof/Breathable rain jacket with hood. This is an essential piece of clothing on all our tours. Combine this garment with a lightweight down or pile jacket and you will be happy during cool early morning photo sessions and times when it rains.
Two pairs of shoes: One sturdy pair for in the field where you can get wet and muddy. One pair for towns and evenings.
Small umbrella for rain and shade. In addition to using my umbrella for rain, I often use it to block the sun from hitting the front element of my lens. Black is best. I like this one.
Sweater or light jacket for possible chill during early morning shoots. A light layer underneath a rain jacket can be surprisingly warm. Magrit and I travel with lightweight down vests and jackets. We also travel with lightweight stocking caps and gloves.
Hat for sun and rain protection.
Sunscreen.
Camera Equipment. On this Netherlands Tour, a long lens is recommended. I suggest at least up to 200 mm on a full frame. I now travel with a Full Frame Sony system and carry a 16-35, 24-105, and 70-300. A sturdy tripod is essential.
