And here are answers to some of your questions:

How large are your groups and how often do I have to unpack?

Our tours are designed for small groups, allowing for an intimate and personalized experience. We believe in the concept of “slow travel,” minimizing the number of hotel changes as much as possible and maximizing the time spent in each destination. For example, during our Tuscany tours, we stay in one charming hotel in Pienza for the entire week, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the Tuscan hill town. Other tours require more location and hotel changes.

A 5% discount if offered to photographers to take more than one photo tour with Photography Travel tors during one tour seasonThe group size is limited to 10-12 participants, with an average of 7-8 individuals. This ensures that each guest receives individual attention from Jim and Magrit, the tour leaders, and fosters a sense of camaraderie among the group. Many of our tours are designed in a way that allows participants to take multiple tours in a row. This makes sense, as once you have made the journey to Europe and overcome jet lag, it’s worth experiencing more than one destination. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for those who have formed connections during one tour to continue their journey together. There’s a 5% discount if you take more than one tour in one tour season.

Throughout our 15 years of operation, we have built strong relationships with local hotels and restaurants. We are committed to supporting and promoting family-run establishments, which results in exceptional care and attention for our guests.

Who are the people I’ll be traveling with?

Our photo tours bring together fellow adventurers, creating a space for learning, capturing moments, fostering connections among tour participants, and enjoying the cuisine and interactions with local people. We extend a warm welcome to couples, solo travelers, and groups of friends or family. It brings us immense joy to see that over 60% of our travelers return to join us on multiple occasions, with some individuals embarking on five or more tours with us, even within a single travel season. Our guests join us from the United States as well as Canada and Australia, with the occasional participant from the United Kingdom, Brazil, and other nations.

Is there a certain skill level required for joining your photo tours?

The histogram is an immensely useful tool for photographyPhotographers of all levels are welcome to join our photo tours. Experienced photographers can benefit from our extensive research on the best photo locations, saving them the time and effort of doing it themselves. For those who are new to photography or want to improve their skills, Jim and Magrit provide on-field teaching and support, as well as classroom modules in case of unfavorable weather. It is strongly recommended that participants have a basic understanding of camera settings for their respective cameras to get the most out of their photo tour. This refers to the ability to quickly navigate to ISO, F-stops, Aperture, and the Histogram, which we fondly refer to as the “Holy Histogram” due to its usefulness in providing exposure feedback. Following online tutorials or taking a few online or in-person classes before the tour can be helpful in preparation. However, rest assured, we are here to assist you throughout the tour.

When you’re on to a good thing stick with it. Traveling is so easy when you’re being picked up from the hotel and all further accommodation, travel, meals or recommended eating spots, delivery to the best of photo spots, assistance for composition, technical camera work, post-processing suggestions, and delivery back to the end hotel are taken care of. How carefree is that!!

At the end of the trip, you’ll have great photos taken in all sorts of weather conditions (in the laps of the gods!), great memories of food, have forged new friendships, and experienced great leadership and assistance for all sorts of things associated with travel and photography. A real photographer’s experience. It’s what you make of it, but it’s also the organization, planning, encouragement, and support from two great personalities. Thanks, Magrit and Jim. Many great trips and many great memories and photos. I now also have more knowledge about photography gained from not only Jim and Magrit but also from the many exchanges with fellow participants. Would I do it again? Yes, I would, and yes I did. Looking forward to even more trips. You don’t have to be a professional photographer, just interested and able to use a camera. Photo ops for landscapes, architecture, people, and abstracts all await, served on a platter! Thanks again to Jim, Magrit, and many new friends!
